HVDC VSC transmission linking an (offshore) islanded wind farm with (onshore) AC grid

Last updated: January 5, 2022

MMC-based VSC HVDC symmetrical monopole, connecting an islanded (offshore) wind farm to an AC grid via HVDC. The converter at the ‘onshore’ side controls the DC voltage, and the ‘offshore’ side maintains AC voltage magnitude and frequency (as a slack bus). Two clusters of wind turbine-generators (WTG) are modelled as separate offshore wind farms, containing Tyep-3 (DFIG) and Type-4 (PMSG with full converter) WTGs. The WTGs are aggregated using scaled current sources.
